A modern house in Birmingham among autumn trees, built by Mosher Dolan

Where we build

Custom home builder in Birmingham, Michigan.

Also Bloomfield Hills, Franklin, West Bloomfield, Orchard Lake, Huntington Woods, Pleasant Ridge, Ann Arbor, Northville, and Detroit

Mosher Dolan was founded in Birmingham in 1979 and has built, renovated, and restored homes across the city ever since. Our office on North Main Street in Royal Oak is ten minutes from downtown; our receiving yard on Nakota is closer still.

Building here

Birmingham, Bloomfield Hills, Franklin, Detroit, and the communities between, since 1979.

Each of these places has its own character and its own ideas about how a house should meet its street, and we like that they care. A new house here is expected to belong: to the lot, to the block, and to the older houses beside it. In Detroit, that has meant work in Palmer Park and Boston-Edison, in houses built a century ago by people who expected them to last.

We have built and renovated in these communities for more than four decades, alongside architects who know each city’s review as well as anyone. Our part begins once a design is approved: pricing it honestly, planning the work with respect for the neighbors, and building what was drawn, in places where people notice the difference.

New homes

Ground-up houses on established streets, whether the lot is empty or an older house is coming down. Traditional, transitional, or modern, designed with your architect to belong on the street and to clear the city’s review the first time.

Renovations & additions

Whole-house renovations, kitchens and primary suites, additions that match the original so closely you cannot find the seam, and the surprises that come with century-old houses, handled calmly.

Restoration

Older homes across the region, with the most significant of them in Bloomfield Hills and in Detroit’s Palmer Park and Boston-Edison neighborhoods, brought back with the plaster, masonry, and millwork done the way they were done the first time, by trades who still know how.

Community by community

Birmingham
Where the firm began, and still where most of our work is. New houses on established streets and whole-house renovations of the 1920s and 1930s stock the city is known for: Modern in the Trees, the Modern Farmhouse, and a whole-home kitchen and bath renovation among them.
Bloomfield Hills & Bloomfield Township
Large wooded lots, lake frontage, and some of the region’s most significant older houses. Our Historic Lake Retreat, NAHB Remodel of the Year, is on Gilbert Lake; the English Tudor and the Poolside Pavilion are here too.
Franklin, West Bloomfield & Orchard Lake
Village streets in Franklin, and lakefront sites in West Bloomfield and Orchard Lake where the house has to answer to the water as well as the road. Lakefront work asks more of a builder: grading, drainage, foundations, and the sequence of trades on a tight site all matter more.
Huntington Woods, Pleasant Ridge & Royal Oak
The close-in neighborhoods around our office: thoughtful additions and renovations to houses on compact lots, where the work has to respect the neighbors on both sides.
Ann Arbor & Northville
West of us, for clients and architects who want the same standard there: our Prairie Modern Estate is in Northville. We travel for the right project.
Detroit
Restoration in Palmer Park and Boston-Edison, in houses built a century ago by people who expected them to last, and earlier mixed-use and loft work in Midtown.
