Stone entry court and reflecting pool at the Historic Lake Retreat

Remodel of the Year · National Association of Home Builders, 2021

Historic Lake Retreat

A century-old stone house on the lake, renewed over three phases for owners who cared about every detail. The work was about making the new complement the old: an addition whose stone matches the original so closely there is no seam to find.

Modern home of precast concrete, Corten steel, and glass among autumn trees in Birmingham

The Wall Street Journal · June 2025

Modern in the Trees

A new house in Birmingham for an owner who wanted complete symmetry, down to the absence of a single visible handle or hinge, and who assembled a world-class team to get it. Every joint between steel, concrete, and wood is on show, so every one had to be right.

Shingle-style lakefront cottage with porches facing the water

Renovation & addition · Orchard Lake

Lakefront Shingle Cottage

A shingle cottage on the lake, taken to the studs and expanded: new rooms that read as original, porches to the water, and a kitchen at the center. The architect’s intent was that the new work look as if it had always been there. We worked closely with the architect to understand that intent, then brought in the trades best suited to the detailing it asked for.

New construction · Bloomfield Hills, on the lake

Bluff House

English Tudor with steep gables, brick, stucco, and leaded glass

Two Platinum awards · Best in American Living, 2021

English Tudor

An English Tudor renovated and expanded with respect for what made it one: steep gables, brick and stucco, leaded windows. Inside, the kitchen and baths were remade in soft blues and whites, with millwork drawn to match the original.

Kitchen with a marble island seen through a wide plaster arch

Historic renovation · Kitchen, primary suite, and baths

Kitchen & Bath Renovation

A new kitchen, primary suite, and guest bath inside a historic house, with the original structure refreshed around them. The guiding idea was to open the rooms to the outside: longer sightlines, more light, and views to the garden from every space we touched.

In their words

From the designers we’ve built with.

“From day one, Mosher Dolan followed our lead. They protected the design intent, asked before they substituted, and pushed back only where they had to, always for a good reason, always early enough to fix. As a designer working from out of state, that’s exactly the partnership that lets the work be its best.” Jackson, designer · New York
“We collaborated on a project in Michigan, and it was easily one of the best builder partnerships I’ve had. Drawings read carefully, sharp questions asked early, and the design protected through the final details. If Mosher Dolan were closer to New York, I’d be sending every local client their way.” Bill, architect · New York
“Long-distance projects can be a headache for everyone involved: drawings get misread, decisions stall, contractors guess instead of asking. Mosher Dolan was different. They read the drawings carefully, asked good questions early, and kept communication tight enough that I never felt I had to fly out to know what was happening. The long-distance part of it just disappeared, and the result is a home we’re all proud of.” Mike, architect · Chicago

Recognition

Acknowledged by the people who know the work best.

We build to the standard, not for the awards. The recognition has followed anyway. The work has been honored in every decade since the 1990s, more than two dozen times in the last ten years alone, including the National Association of Home Builders’ Remodel of the Year. The recent honors are listed here.
